Mateusz Rakowicz​

Director and storyboard artist. A graduate of Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and Wajda School.


Director and producer of short films, including the award-winning ‘Lamplighter’ (with participation Darek Basiński from Mumio and Marek Kondrat) and ‘Romantik’  starring Robert Więckiewicz. He also directed award-winning music videos and commercials (including videos for Ania Dabrowska, Natalia Sikora, Pezet, Afromental and Kamil Bednarek).

 

His last short featurefilm, ‘Romantik’ (Polish-French co-production), has been recognized by critics and festival audience around the world. He had a world premiere at the TIFF Film Festival in Toronto. In addition, he was in the official selection of festivals such as Palm Springs, St. Louis, or the Warsaw Film Festival. He gained many many prizes, including the Audience Award at the CinEast Festival in Luxembourg, Jantar (main prize) for ‘narrative talent, sense of humor and lightness in telling the story’ at the Debut Festival Młodzi i Film in Koszalin (2016), honorary distinction at Gdynia Film Festival, nominated for directing and cinematography for Polish film Jan Machulski awards.

 

Currently, Rakowicz is working on the feature debut "Najmro", whose premiere is planned for the end of 2020. The film is inspired by real events from the life of Zdzisław Najmrodzki - the king of thieves in the 70s and 80s..

 

Mateusz successfully directs commercials for such clients as: Johnson's, Nestle, Nescafe, Glaxo Smith Kline, Skoda, Pfizer, TUI, USP Zdrowie, Radio Zet.
