Jan Komasa is is an award-winning director with portfolio of feature films, documentaries, commercials and music videos; with acting episode in Filip Bajon’s ‘The Spring to Come’. 

Before he studied Directing in Lodz Film School, he tried Philosophy in Cardinal Wyszynski University in Warsaw but dropped it in favour of film. In college his major was Spanish, he also graduated the piano class. Jan is 'Polityka Passport Award' laureate of 2015. His second year in Lodz Film School, resulted in short film ‘It’s Good You Are’, which won outstanding award in 'Cannes Cinéfundation' competition.

He is the author of a visionary film that was way ahead of its time called "Suicide Room". It was a story about Dominik, who after suffering extreme humiliation at school, holes himself up in his room and begins spending all his time in a VR chat room. This film has won 18 awards and 10 nominations at various international film festivals around the world. Media named him The Discovery of The Year 2011.

He is also the author of box office hit documentary "Warsaw Uprising" – the first non-fiction world war drama and "Warsaw 44" (12 wins and 8 nominations at various international film festivals around the world) - one of the biggest budget blockbusters since 1989. His collaboration with Hollywood SFX specialists and the impact of an eight-year project was breathtaking. Its form was considered controversial because the insurgent massacre was dressed in a popmodern form, with an anti-war message, historical errors and a premiere at the National Stadium in Warsaw; it was to be condemned to criticism.

Then he immersed himsef in TV series "Ultraviolet" with Kasia Adamik and Slawomir Fabicki, produced by AXN Europe and Opus film respectively and co-directed by Slawek Fabicki. It's a story of thirty years old Ola, who is forced to leave London to come back to Lodz, where she witnesses a tragedy.

In 2019 "Corpus Chrisit" had its premiere. This film has won 33 wins and 9 nominations at various international film festivals around the world, including Edipo Re Award and Label Europa Cinemas Awarda at Venice Film Festival, 10 awards at Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, 3 awards at Minsk International Film Festival, 2 awards at El Gouna Film Festival and 2 awards at CinEast 2019.

"Corpus Christi" was nominated for the Oscar Academy Award in the category International Feature Film. In 2020 "Suicide Room: The Hater" long awaited sequel of Jan's visionary film got awarded at Tribeca Film Festival for the Best International Narrative Feature. Jan is a member of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

 

Jan just finished shooting feature film "Anniversary". It's billed as a “provocative” thriller about a very close-knit family that is torn apart as a new movement known as "The Change" envelops the country. Star-studded cast includes: Diane Lane, Kyle Chandler, Zoey Deutch, Phoebe Dynevor, Madeline Brewer, Mckenna Grace and Daryl McCormack
