Łukasz Gutt

Łukasz Gutt graduated from the Cinematography Department of the University of Silesia in Katowice. His feature debut as cinematographer was the acclaimed Ki (2011) directed by Leszek Dawid, presented at the Venice Film Festival. The film received numerous awards, including nominations for the Main Prize in the Polish Film Competition and the Cinematographers’ Debut Competition at Camerimage 2011, as well as a nomination for the Andrzej Munk Award and the Golden Duck awarded by readers of Film magazine.

In 2010, together with Paweł Ferdek, he co-directed Scrap Odyssey, an epic documentary shot in Kyrgyzstan and presented at numerous international festivals.

As director of photography, Łukasz has worked on many notable feature films, including Filip Bajon’s Panie Dulskie; The Butler (Kamerdyner), which won the Silver Lions at the Gdynia Film Festival and was nominated for the Main Prize in the Polish Film Competition at Camerimage 2018 as well as for the PSC Award; Performer by Łukasz Ronduda and Maciej Sobieszczański, winner of the Think: Film Award at the Berlinale 2015; and Łukasz Ronduda’s Heart of Love, which premiered at Berlinale 2018, was nominated for the Grand Prix at the New Horizons Festival, and earned him the Jantar Award for Cinematography at the Youth and Film – Debut Film Festival in Koszalin. He was also cinematographer for the British-French crime mini-series The Tunnel (2013), produced by Sky Atlantic (UK) and Canal+ (France), which received a Drama Series Emmy Award nomination.

Łukasz is the co-director (with Łukasz Ronduda) and cinematographer of the feature All Our Fears (2021), a critical and audience success that won the Main Prize at the Gdynia Film Festival along with numerous other awards, including Best Cinematography, the Journalists’ Award, the Don Quixote Award from the Federation of Polish Film Clubs, the Young Jury Award, and the Golden Tape Award (Polish Section of FIPRESCI). He was named Discovery of the Year at the Polish Film Awards.

He was the cinematographer for three episodes of the historical drama series Becoming Elizabeth, created and written by award-winning playwright and screenwriter Anya Reiss, which premiered in June 2022. He also shot Leszek Dawid’s Broad Peak (Netflix), based on the true story of legendary Polish Himalayan climber Maciej Berbeka. The film earned Łukasz nominations for the Polish Film Awards and the PSC Awards – Polish Society of Cinematographers Awards.

Most recently, the Netflix series Kibic, directed by Łukasz Palkowski, premiered with his cinematography. In 2023, two feature films he shot were presented in the Main Competition of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia: Święty, directed by Sebastian Buttny, a Polish-Hungarian co-production using a criminal intrigue to explore the political and social realities of late-1980s Poland; and Różyczka 2, directed by Jan Kidawa-Błoński, the sequel to the acclaimed Różyczka, which uncovers long-hidden family secrets that force the protagonist to confront the past and make life-altering choices. The latter received enthusiastic reviews from both critics and audiences.

In addition to his film work, Łukasz is an accomplished visual artist. His works, including the collaborative project Minstrel Show with Anna Niesterowicz, have been presented in leading galleries and museums in Poland and abroad, including Kunsthalle Basel, the Foksal Gallery Foundation, and the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.
