Maciej Edelman

Maciej studied Cinematography at the Film School in Łódź. He has worked as a cinematographer on numerous short feature films, documentaries, music videos, and commercials, shooting in Poland, Africa, Serbia, England, Belgium, and Germany. Many of these projects have received awards at Polish and international film festivals.

The documentary Connected, directed by Aleksandra Maciejczyk, was selected for IDFA and awarded the Silver Dragon at the Krakow Film Festival. Carrière de Pissy, a documentary by Eliott Chabanis with Maciej’s cinematography, premiered at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival.

In 2024, Maciej was the cinematographer for the feature film Hunting (Polowanie), directed by Paweł Chmielewski—a political thriller starring Michał Czernecki and Artur Barciś. Based on true events, the film tells the story of a local mafia’s plan to eliminate an independent politician fighting for fair governance. Hunting received the PFFA President’s Award for Fiction Film at the Polish Film Festival of America.

The short film An Orange from Jaffa, directed by Mohammed Almughanni and shot by Maciej, won the Grand Prix in the International Competition at the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, as well as the Award for Best European Short and the title of Krakow Film Festival’s candidate for the 2024 European Film Awards in the short film category. It is also nominated in the Short Film Competition of the 49th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.

The short feature film The Power of Resistance, directed by Elżbieta Benkowska with Maciej’s cinematography, received a Special Mention from the jury of the National Competition at the Krakow Film Festival 2024 and is likewise nominated in the Short Film Competition of the 49th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.

Recently Maciej was also the cinematographer for the feature film S*ks dla opornych, directed by Rafał Skalski and based on the stage play by Katarzyna Raduszyńska. The film is an intimate and humorous portrait of a couple in crisis and is scheduled to premiere in autumn 2025.

Maciej values long-term collaborations with directors and seeks out challenging projects across diverse areas of filmmaking.
