Born in Poznań in 1979, he graduated in Exhibition and Design, Multimedia Communication, and Photography from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań, and later from the Cinematography Department of the Łódź Film School.
He began his career as a camera operator, collaborating with leading Polish directors and cinematographers on acclaimed films such as Róża (2011), Sala samobójców (2011), Skrzydlate Świnie (2010), and Wojna polsko-ruska (2009). As a cinematographer, his credits include five seasons of the TV series Wojenne dziewczyny, the crime series Sługi wojny, and the historical series Moth Hunting (Polowanie na ćmy) directed by Michał Rogalski, as well as romantic comedies such as Dawid i Elfy, Miłość jest wszystkim, Miłość bez granic, and To musi być miłość, alongside thrillers and action films.
Maciej has worked closely with one of Poland’s most renowned directors, Władysław Pasikowski, shooting Pitbull. Ostatni pies and Psy 3. W imię zasad, starring Bogusław Linda, Cezary Pazura, and Marcin Dorociński. He has also contributed to big-budget historical productions, bringing a distinct visual sensitivity that enriches historical storytelling. His work on Moth Hunting (Polowanie na ćmy) earned a nomination in the TV Series Competition at the 31st EnergaCAMERIMAGE International Film Festival.
His recent credits include the second season of Canal+’s Minuta ciszy and Assassination of the Pope, a feature film inspired by the events surrounding the 1981 assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II. He also worked on the second season of the international thriller Furia, directed by Magnus Martens, Gjermund Eriksen, and Michał Rogalski, as well as the wartime espionage drama Bay of Spies (Zatoka szpiegów), which was enthusiastically received by both audiences and critics. His latest production is the SkyShowtime series Pionek, directed by Michał Gazda and Bartosz Blaschke. His cinematography on Assassination of the Pope earned him a nomination at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, while his work on Minuta ciszy and Bay of Spies (shared with cinematographer Kacper Zieliński) received nominations for Best Cinematography at BNP Paribas Warsaw SerialCon.
Maciej’s cinematography is a key element in the success of the productions he works on. His visual storytelling is both emotionally charged and uniquely creative, enhancing narratives across genres and leaving a lasting impact on audiences.
