Originally trained as a Polish philologist, she has built an impressive career across feature films, television and commercial productions.
Her extensive body of work includes feature films, television series such as the BBC production The Passing Bells, and award-winning advertising campaigns, including the Golden KTR-winning costumes for the Tyskie Brewery campaign (2020).
Magda is a four-time recipient of Poland’s most prestigious costume design awards. She received the Polish Film Award (Eagle) for Wołyń, Warsaw 44 and Manhunt, as well as the Best Costume Design Award at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia for Offsiders. In 2022 she received another Gdynia award for her costumes for Wojciech Smarzowski’s Wesele.
In 2023 she was honoured with two Bronze KTR Awards for There Is Always Love, a short film created for the Warsaw Uprising Museum and directed by Tadeusz Śliwa, and for the commercial Tarczyński Train, directed by Piotr Janowski.
Most recently, Magda designed the costumes for Dom dobry, directed by Wojciech Smarzowski, one of the most talked-about and commercially successful Polish films of 2025, attracting nearly 1.8 million cinema viewers. She also created the costumes for the English–Polish feature film The Partisan, directed by James Marquand, telling the story of Krystyna Skarbek, the legendary British wartime spy believed to have inspired James Bond’s first love, starring Morgane Polanski.
A member of both the Polish Filmmakers Association (SFP) and the Polish Film Academy, Magda comes from a filmmaking family. She is the daughter of acclaimed costume designer Jadwiga Rutkiewicz-Mikulska and film director and military consultant Jan Rutkiewicz.
