Marek Warszewski
Marek is an acclaimed production designer and graduate of The Strzemiński Academy of Art in Łódź. Recognized for his mastery of historical set design and large-scale film productions, he was awarded the Golden Eagle in 2015 for Warsaw ’44 (together with Grzegorz Piątkowski) and nominated the following year for Karbala. In 2017, the Gdynia Film Festival honored him for Breaking the Limits (dir. Łukasz Palkowski).
He has collaborated with some of Poland’s most celebrated directors, including Andrzej Wajda, Jan Komasa, Krzysztof Łukaszewicz, and Łukasz Palkowski. His credits include Mosquito State (dir. Filip Jan Rymsza), which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival 2020 and won the Golden Claw in the “Other Views” category at the Gdynia Film Festival 2021; and Wesele (dir. Wojciech Smarzowski), as well as the acclaimed TV series The Mire (dir. Jan Holoubek). He received Polish Film Award nominations for his production design on Magnesia and Wesele.
In 2022, Marek designed the Netflix hit series High Water (dir. Jan Holoubek), inspired by the catastrophic 1997 Central European flood. Within two weeks of release, it became the number-one non-English-language series on Netflix globally, earning international praise for its authentic and atmospheric set design. His latest feature Czerwone maki (dir. Krzysztof Łukaszewicz) — the first Polish feature about the Battle of Monte Cassino — brought him another Polish Eagle Award nomination for Production Design.
Most recently, Marek completed work on the ambitious five-episode series Heweliusz (dir. Jan Holoubek), based on the 1993 sinking of the ferry Heweliusz. Described as the most complex Polish TV production in recent years, the series showcases his ability to recreate large-scale historical events with precision and visual impact. Since Wednesday (November 5), the long-awaited series "Heweliusz" has been available to watch on Netflix. The production about the ferry sinking has already become the platform’s most-watched title. What’s more, it’s also receiving very positive reviews from viewers, who admit that they experienced intense emotions while watching it.
In 2023, Marek received the Best Art Direction award at the Gdynia Film Festival for Doppelgänger. Sobowtór (dir. Jan Holoubek), a spy thriller inspired by PRL-era intelligence agents who assumed stolen identities. The film also received awards for directing, cinematography, costume design, supporting actor, and an honorable mention for sound effects.
Marek is master of historic set designs and spectacular film productions.
